Juliet and Cinderella

Your hand in mine, we ran into the night, beneath a blanket of stars and basked in woodland scent. The wind gently grazes us, as our breaths wavered in harmony. Our hands coated in sweat, but had I realized, you already vanished deep in the abyss.

I truly thought it was meant to be, we’d run together as our souls linked as one. But the magic wore off as soon as the clock struck twelve. You disappeared without a trace, leaving nothing but the memory of you and a glass slipper, one that glistened and shined like the sea of stars that lit up above.

Once upon a time, you loved me, but when I called out your name, a voice told you: “I forbid.” When I screamed at the top of my lungs: “I love you,” you spat out forbidden fruits we once feast upon. You couldn’t take chances, as your will wavered upon hardship.

I knocked on your door and wept as you silently knelt to wash the cupboards. “I’ve ought to return your slipper,” met with deathly silence. You waited for your Prince Charming to come and save you, yet you’ve been met with Juliet.

If I had been a prince, would you’ve loved me then? Worthy of opening the door and led into your open arms? If I hadn’t been her, would you have let it happen – let us happen?

Once upon a time, I loved you, but when you called out my name, a voice told me: “It wasn’t so.” When you whispered under your breath, “I love you,” you prayed for Fairy Godmother’s magic to keep my light aflame. I wanted to take chances, but we were never meant to be.

We were set on a clock, and were doomed from the start. As minutes passed, we were bound to break apart – magic worn off, and tragedy ensued. It was cut short, but as bitter as it was, I’ll forever savor those sugar-sweet hours.

Because I loved a maiden who wished upon a star, while I cried on my balcony, wondering: wherefore art thou? Because it twisted like a knife, as I lay with none by my side, gazing into the rising morning sun.

But once upon a time, I called you “mine,” and you did too. We spoke gentle words as you hid behind a magic veil. “Where did it go!” I wailed as I pulled out my nails and clawed til’ my walls were painted crimson red.

But now, as the wounds seal and tears run dry, I quietly set your glass slipper upon your doorstep. I knocked on your door, and without a single word, I took my leave.

My hands alone, I ran into the day, beneath a sea of clouds and basked in woodland scent. The wind gently grazes me, as my breath wavered. Coated in sweat, but had you known, I already vanished deep in the light.

Because I had loved you once upon a time.
