Homecoming weekend home game preview
This year's homecoming schedule is full of many events to attend. Not only is this one of the best weekends for sports at UMD, but this weekend also serves as the halfway point for most of the fall season sports. Here is a quick look at the teams that have home games this weekend.
The football team will look to continue their winning streak on Saturday as the undefeated Bulldogs take on Southwest Minnesota State at Malosky Stadium at 1pm. The Bulldogs are one of two teams that are undefeated in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). They also moved up to No. 6 in the Division II coaches poll, which is the highest ranking for the Bulldogs since 2015. They have five games left in the regular season and will need a loud student section if they want to capture another national championship this year.
The women’s volleyball team plays Upper Iowa at 4pm on Saturday in Romano Gym. The ladies have started the season off strong currently boasting a 16-4 record and find themselves sitting at third place in the NSIC. “The team is excited for a competitive match and it will be fun to have some extra fans there supporting us” Sophomore Kate Berg said. Make sure to head over to Romano after the football game.
If you don’t like big crowds and enjoy free events, head over to the club men's rugby game at 1pm against NDSU on Saturday. The game is at the Billings Park Civic Association in Superior, WI. Sophomore Dylan Rasmussen said, “This weekend is a test to see who is going to be a top seed for the conference tournament.” NDSU is one of their biggest rivals and poses a huge threat to their goal of getting back to South Carolina for a national championship. Rasmussen also said, “Our team is our family here at UMD and we are always pushing each other to do our best and to have fun.”
It should be an action packed weekend full of excitement and hopefully a lot of winning.
