Men’s and Women's Basketball Dominates in Pre-Season Match-Ups

On Monday Nov. 3, Bulldog men’s and women’s basketball faced off against the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets. Both teams came out victorious clinching an 87-36 win for the women and an 81-50 win for the men.
The women’s game escalated quickly, with Superior scoring two layups in a row in an attempt to gain an early lead. The Bulldogs responded to this with a 9-point run, bringing the score to 9-4 within the first three minutes of the game. The rest of the quarter was fairly quiet for the Yellowjackets, scoring just 4 additional points while the Bulldogs stayed on fire, gaining12 consecutive points to end the quarter with a 27-9 lead.
The second quarter began with a Bulldog 3-pointer to start things out. This did not put the Yellowjackets down, as they responded with a 9-point run in an attempt to catch up to the Bulldogs. Junior guard Lexi Karlen was able to end this Yellowjacket run in a fast break to bring the score to 37-21 with the Bulldogs on top. The Bulldogs ended the half with their highest lead of the game thus far and a score of 43-23.
A Bulldog 13-point run started out the third quarter, followed by a fairly quiet rest of the quarter for the Yellowjackets, which ended in a 68-27 Bulldog lead. The fourth quarter did not see a lot of action in the first half with both teams scoring only 2 points each. The Bulldogs then were able to score 11 consecutive points in the second half of the quarter. The Yellowjackets were able to end this run with a last second layup to end the quarter and the game with a final score of 87-36.

The men’s game started with the Bulldogs winning the tip off and a 3-point shot made by sophomore guard Kole Hanson within the first few seconds of the game. The Bulldogs then went on to pull an 11-2 run with twelve minutes still left of the half. Superior responded by scoring four consecutive points in an attempt to catch up to the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs quickly ended this run with an amazing steal pulled off by senior forward Mattie Thompson, and a 3-point shot made by senior forward Noah Paulson to clinch the Bulldogs a 20-point lead with two minutes left of the half. The half ended with a score of 42-17.
The Bulldogs started the second half with 7 consecutive points. The Yellowjackets, in an attempt to catch up to the Bulldogs scored two consecutive 3-point shots This was countered with a 12-point run by the Bulldogs, bringing the score to 61-29. The Bulldogs then put up several fast breaks scoring 7 points in just one minute with ten minutes to go in the half. The Yellowjackets put up quite a fight scoring 20 points in the remainder of the half, but it was not enough to catch up and the game ended in a Bulldog win with a score of 81-50.
The women’s team opens up their season away against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on November 14 in Winona, MN. The men’s team tips off their season on November 14 in an away game against East Central University in Durant, OK.
