UMD Men's Hockey Faced Western Michigan in Down-to-the-Wire Games

UMD Men’s hockey faces Western Michigan at Amsoil Arena on Friday, Jan. 23, and Saturday, Jan. 24, in very close games. The first game starts with a goal from Western Michigan player Zaccharya Wisdom just 7 minutes into the game.
A minute later, UMD returns one to them with a goal by sophomore Ty Hanson. The period ends with one more goal being scored with 4 minutes left.
The second period was a close game with many shots on goal for both teams, but neither scoring till the end. With one minute left in the period, WMU’s player William Whitelaw scored the final score of the second period, 3-1.
The third period was a heated matchup with the Bulldogs fighting for the victory. With 5 minutes left in the game, WMU’s player, Owen Michaels, scored their fourth and final goal of the game. UMD was not giving up and scored its second goal by Jason Shaugabay and an assist from Zam Plante with a minute and a half left of the game.
With the game not yet over, UMD scores again by Callum Arnott with an assist from Max Plante with a minute left to go. With little time left, UMD fought hard to try and score again, but the game ended with a loss of 4-3, with a victory for Western Michigan.
Saturday's game started with a strong fight as the teams were prepared from the night before. Both teams played hard and made many shots on goal, but didn’t score any goals by the end of the first period.
In the second period, the Bulldogs worked hard as a team, and within the first minute of the game, Jason Shaugabay scored with an assist from Ty Hanson. A minute later, Western Michigan followed up and scored a goal, making the score 1-1.
With eleven minutes left of the game, UMD took back the lead with Callum Arnott scoring the goal and Max Plante with the assist. With 4 minutes left of the game, WMU scored a goal, tying the 2nd period and ending it 2-2.
The third period was a close matchup, with both teams scoring a goal. With 9 minutes left of the game, UMD player Scout Truman scored a goal. WMU ended up following with another goal, finishing the period 3-3 and going into overtime.
During overtime, it was a very close matchup with WMU finishing the period scoring a goal with 16 seconds left of the game, leaving UMD with a loss of 4-3.
